Have you ever spent $30 bucks on McDonald’s for four people. Maybe you have… maybe you haven’t. But the thing is… we just wanted to drop by a pick up a ‘small’ snack before we feast in Moab celebrating our conquering of Zion.
<div class=separator style=clear: both; text-align: center;><a href=http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hsdxJBu19Mk/UWuUUqH22UI/AAAAAAAAE6Y/AKccur-rLWY/s1600/IMG_7301-0003.jpg imageanchor=1 style=margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;>

It took us a little longer than anticipated to get back to Moab from Zion, actually two hours more than the three hours anticipated due to miscalculation. Regardless, we made it back o Moab at 12PM. Moab, the place where you don’t want to be in the dead of summer, but the best place to be in the spring…. Especially during spring break. This was our problem, Moab was packed with people, campsites were all booked up. At midnight, all we wanted was to pitch tent, feast on our steak and shrimp and hit the bed. After about an hour of driving all over Moab to look for campsites, and our tank was on empty, we decided a beach was the next best thing we can get.

Avoiding officials and alibies, we pitch tent at 2AM and snoozed until 5:30AM. Got up, packed up, and took off before anyone can ask us any unwanted questions. Not knowing exactly where we would have our hearty breakfast of eggs, bacons and bread we took off into Canyonlands National Park! Unexpected, but we found ourselves enjoying our breakfast on a cliff, staring into the sunrise with countless of slot canyons twiddling in the background. By far, the best breakfast. Ever. Period.

Looking at our clock, we decided there was a little more time to explore Canyonlands before heading back to reserve our official campsite for the night. Mesa Arch was our next target. Words cannot truly describe how stunning this arch is. The arch perched right on a cliff edge. Encompassed by the arch itself is all of Canyonlands and its features.

Pushing our luck to not get a ticket in Canyonlands for not purchasing a daily pass, we decided to head out and setup our tents and move on to Arches National Park. Not as intense as the experience in the Zion backcountry, we partially hiked Devil’s Garden and finished the night off with a sunset at Delicate Arch.
Finally…. Steak and shrimp. Our last night out, these delicacies were long overdue. Sitting there with a grill in the perfect weather, we enjoyed the rushing river to our left, vertical walls of the slot canyons to our right and a star filled sky above us. Nothing better to end our last night.

No alarm to wake up to, we eased out of our comfortable sleeping bags and air mattresses to start our trip back to reality. Packed up, stomach filled with the last few cans of chicken noodles soup and eggs, bacons and bread, hands gripping tight to the energy drink, we headed back to Denver. Or so we thought…..
Halfway back…… we flipped a coin to see if we should go to Hanging Lake to do a short 3-mile roundtrip hike. Heads we go Hanging Lake. Tails… we don’t go back to Denver. Just like that… we geared up and hiked into Hanging Lake. As suspected… the trailed was covered in snow and some portion iced over.

Hiking up was like trying to climb a waterslide, with ice. Making up to the top in about 30 minutes, we spent a few minutes enjoying the scenery. The lake itself had crystal clear water with a slight shade of teal. When it was time to head back, an unexpected careful hike turned into a carefree slip and slide. Since the trail was still covered in snow and ice, we literally slide down the mountain in record time of 20 minutes. After heading back to Denver without any other unexpected events, we sat down and enjoy a bowl of pho while reminiscing our crazy childhood.

So the question is now is… should we actually plan our next trip? Or go with the flow?
